Diversity, Federalism and Democracy in India: A Southern Perspective

India’s strength lies in its incredible diversity of languages and cultures. In this interactive lecture, Professor Ganesh Devy – India’s leading linguist, anthropologist and activist speaks about the vast diversity of languages and cultures of India that necessitates a strong federal structure as the the linchpin of Indian Democracy. The lecture is also in memory of India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, whose 131st birthday was on November 14th, 2020 and was the ardent proponent of Indian Federalism and was the architect of Linguistic Re-organisation of States in 1956.
