TPF Lecture #03: Access To Space & Planetary Exploration- Indian Capabilities: A Perspective

The Peninsula Foundation (TPF) on 23rd August 2019, organised a lecture cum interactive session on “Access to Space & Planetary Exploration- Indian Capabilities: A perspective” in partnership with Hindustan University. The lecture was conducted on the premises of the School of Aeronautical Sciences, HITS (Hindustan Institute of Technology and Sciences). The lecture was delivered by renowned Space Scientist and Former Director of VSSC & LPSC, ISRO, Padma Shri Dr. S Ramakrishnan. The event was arranged to enable a significant understanding of space issues, especially from development and security perspectives.

The 100-minute lecture began at 10:30 am and was followed by a Q & A session that ended at 1:00 pm. Dr. Ramakrishnan began by exploring the cosmos and the need to look beyond earth. He spoke about the nuances of space ventures and the technology behind launch vehicles, with special references to India and Chandrayaan 2. He further talked about the immense potential for future developments in space activities and stressed the need to harness innovative initiatives from within the Indian youth. Dr. Ramakrishnan ended the session by highlighting the need for international collaborations and guidelines to ensure space ethics with the evolution of space mining and other commercial space activities.
