Pushpindar Singh Chopra (dob 30.09.1943) has been involved with aerospace in one form or the other for some four decades. Originally he was with the engineering industry (the Tata Group) and later headed Daimler Benz Aerospace in India till its re-organisation in 2002. He was directly involved in several design/development/production programmes including the light transport aircraft, advance light helicopter, pilotless target aircraft and light combat aircraft with various international groups and their Indian counterparts including HAL, NAL and ADA.
He is President of The Society for Aerospace Studies(SAS), which ‘think-tank’ based in New Delhi is continuously involved with projects concerning the aerospace industry and part of several initiatives including focused seminars on aspects of interest to the Indian Aviation Industry, the Indian Armed Forces and Civil Aviation.
SAS are also publishers of India’s best-known aerospace journal (Vayu Aerospace & Defence Review), now in its 44thyear of publication of which he is founding editor. The Journal is recipient of several global awards at international Air Shows including those at Paris and Farnborough.
For over four decades, since 1966, Pushpindar Singh has been engaged in researching, recording and writing on the Indian Air Force, focussed on its history from the foundations till the present, virtually becoming the historian-emeritus of India’s air arm.
He is co-founder of the recently constituted Delhi Forum for Strategic Studies whose aims and objectives is to foster strategic consciousness amongst Indian citizens while promoting research into and the study of national and international issues which impact India’s security, economic resurgence and internal harmony.
