BIO

Ambassador G. Parthasarathy IFS (Retd) was the Indian High Commissioner in Pakistan from 1998 until retiring from service in 2000. Mr. Parthasarathy was also the High Commissioner of India in Australia from 1995 to 1998 and High Commissioner of India in Cyprus from 1990 to 1992 and Ambassador of India to Myanmar from 1992 to 1995.
Mr. Parthasarathy has served as the Information Adviser in the Prime Minister’s Office with Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. He was associated with issues pertaining to analysis of development financing and performance of public sector enterprises and Economic Ministries while working in the Prime Minister’s Office. Mr. Parthasarathy was closely involved in financial planning related to specific projects both in the Ministry of External Affairs and in Indian diplomatic missions abroad.
He is also an Honorary Visiting Professor in the Centre for Policy Research in New Delhi; a Member of the Executive Council of the Centre for Air Power Studies, New Delhi and also a Member of the Editorial Board of the Indian Defense Journal. He holds a B.E. Degree in Electrical Engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy, Madras in 1962. The Ambassador is an Army veteran and participated in the 1965 Indo-Pak war.
He currently writes an influential column in The Pioneer, Business Line and Rediff.com, mostly on foreign affairs. He is popularly regarded as a “hawk” when it comes to matters of India‘s defence and policy towards Pakistan and terrorism. He co-authored a book with ex-Pakistan Foreign Secretary, Dr. Humayun Khan. The book, Diplomatic Divide, debates the issues that divide India and Pakistan. In July 2018, he was appointed as the Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu.
